the 626 came with either a 2.0l 4cyl(kl-something?), or a 2.5l 6 cyl (kl03), but, there is a 2.5l j-spec v6 (klze). assuming youre living in america, youre not going to find this engine in a junkyard, youre going to have to find one over the internet.
or in owners forums ( )
you dont need to change the transmission as the other poster stated (assuming you currently have the kl03 engine).
I really dont want to go into major detail on a klze swap, but you will need: ecu, wiring harness, distributer, you need to tap the egr valve, and you might as well swap out the flywheel for an mx3 (bigger).
now performance parts for the kl03 are hard to find. It doesnt have a very big aftermarket, and the aftermarket support it has, is pretty pricey compared to other cars.
visit and check out the vendor list for companies that sell peformance parts, and also take them up on bulk buys. if you want a turbo kit, youre going to save hundreds.
if you happen to have the automatic transmission, dumping this should be the very first thing you do. they are very poorly made, if you want to keep an automatic while increasing performance, goto they will build that auto to handle increased performance, but its going to cost the same as a manual swap.
mx6s, 626s, probes, mx3 are very problematic cars, because they just werent built well, but if you dont mind the increased maintenance costs, they arent bad.
also, one of the first modifications you should do, would be to do the "msd mod" search for it on any of the sites i previously listed.
The distributers/ignition are junk. i replaced mine twice, and when it failed the third time, i learned of the msd mod. A remaned disty costs around $300, themsd mod, consists of a msd 6 al and blaster 2 coil, and total runs around $225.
So theres the basics."
1998 Mazda 626 Performance Parts? Are there any good performance parts or a place to get them for the 626 because i'm having a little bit of trouble finding some?
cool_dude replied: "Start with a 3 inch exhaust, then a cold air inatake with a performance filter.
Custom turbo or a supercharger would do good but will cost you a lot of $$$
You can fix an electric supercharger off ebay but not sure if they can give any performance.
If you are happy to spend around $1000 you can import a nice body kit from USA
Go to US ebay and search. Kit costs around $600 and $400 for shipping
All prices are in Au$
Good Luck"
where can I look online for auto parts. Such as hood latch for a Mazda 626 2002 the car is an automatic? I have been to a few wrecking yards. But is there other places to find where they sell these parts?
