84 nissan 720 4x4 stalls when going slow uphill.will start and idle only.after engine cools down it runs fine.? checked fuel filter,3 new fuel pumps, bypass fuel pump relay,3 different carbs, new plugs&wires, new cap rotor button distributor, new head gasket, reset timing changed all vacuum lines.HELP
D.C. replied: "SOUNDS LIKE BURNT VALVES ------TO CHECK DO A COLD DRY COMPRESSION CHECK ( WRITE DOWN ) THEN SQUIRT A LITTLE OIL IN ALL SPARK-PLUG HOLES SPIN THE ENGINE OVER 15 - 20 SECONDS WITH A RAG OR PAPER TOWEL OVER THE PLUG HOLES TO CATCH THE OIL AND THEN DO A WET CHECK . NOW PUT THE PLUGS IN AND FIRE IT UP AND GET IT HOT , THE SECOND YOU SHUT IT DOWN WITH GLOVES ON PULL ALL PLUGS AND DO A DRY COMPRESSION CHECK FOLLOWED BY A WET .IF THE FIRST WET CHECK IS HIGHER THAN THE DRY YOU HAVE RINGS LEAKING -----IF BOTH THE HOT CHECKS ARE LOWER THAN THE COLD CHECKS YOU HAVE BURNT VALVES AND NEED A VALVE JOB"

1981 nissan 720 2wd pickup, has problems geting up to speed? as seen above i have this truck ive had it for about 3 months when i first got it ran great now well it still runs it starts and idles fine but when you go to drive it you have the feather the throttle to get it to move but when you punch it wants to die and when the 2nd daries kick it it wants to hesitate. ive been told so many things i need a pretty straght answer could this be a fuel filter, fuel pump, or a simple tune up?i want a pretty close or to dead on answer if any one has had this problem with this truck thanks this has the 2.2 gas carb engine with a 5 speed stick thanks for looking and i hope i ge the best answers
jerry replied: "suggest you start with checking the fuel pressure and volume.
check the engine timing and manifold vacuum.
possible fuel pump problem. pressure wont be very much, possibly 3-10psi. more importantly you'll need volume. disconnect the fuel hose and point it into a container, crank or start the engine, anywhere near 1/2 quart in 30 seconds is plenty. Make Sure The Fuel Doesn't Pour Onto Or Near The Plug Wires Or Distributor Cap---unless you want a car-b-q.
also a restricted or plugged exhaust could cause that problem. you would need to check exh. back-pressure or disconnect and recheck to rule that out.
if you still have a problem then i would suspect an ignition secondary problem like a weak ignition coil, spark arching in the dist. cap.
sometimes the dist. rotor will get a small burn hole in it and allow the spark to ground"
Where is the ignition relay on a 1985 nissan 720 truck? My truck was running fine, then one day it died on me in town. My dad came out, looked at it, and then after doing nothing, it started. A couple of days later, I am leaving school, and it dies again. We have figured out that the fuel pump is only getting voltage some of the time. Before we start pulling up carpet to trace this wire, we'd like to check the relay. Our manual doesn't say where the relay is, and the ones on top of the fuse box aren't labeled. Please help, I am trying to sell this truck and can't until I get this fixed.
Karle replied: "wat do u mean by only getting voltage some of the time??? cas thats wats supposed to happen....the fuel pressure regulator "senses" that the pressure is good so turns off the pump...otherwise ur pump wud run all the time with ignition on....wich it pretty much does wile motor is running.....
and i think ur looking for fuel pump relay and not ignition relay......and usually they r inside the cap under teh driver kick panel
that is a picture of it that shud help u wen looking for it"
77Impala replied: "Man I wish I had never sold my 84 Nissan 720 King Cab. I too had the fuel pump headache. Except mine totally died and would not kick the pump back on. Turns out long story short is that there is a Fuel Pump Computer on the right hand side of your dash near the bottom of the windshield. This computer is known to go bad (learned from a Nissan Tech). Since your truck is carburetor I recommend what I did, run a new wire from the fuse panel that is on only with the ignition and hook it up to the pump. The fuel pump will run at all times that the ignition switch is on but that will not hurt anything. Latter when I learned of the pump computer I did buy one and tried it but it was not the problem. It was a wire somewhere. I ran the truck for over a year and a half before I sold it and as far as I know the next owner kept it wired the way I did it."
