which tuner car is faster subaru impreza sti or lancer evolution 9? im thinkin of buying one but i want the fastest one of the two

Shiva M replied: "evo 9"

lbhietala replied: "There's a hornet's nest I won't throw rocks at. They're both fast. They're both probably way more car than you can ever possibly use at 10/10ths in the real world. In the end, you can make either one a Lamborghini-crusher with enough money and effort. Speed is money; how fast do you want to go? Same question: how wide do you want to crack your wallet?"

subaru man replied: "i would bet money on the Subaru, but on the long run the Subaru is a way better car, and it is very, very reliable! i have a 1983 Subaru with 217k miles but i did some research and there is story's of some still running with 611k mile's but you will get your money's worth with a Subaru, and the Subaru gets has better handling"

I <3 my Suby. replied: "I love the Subaru ans will stand by their quality more then Mitsubishi. Subaru has a much nicer interior that is not as embarassing to drive your parents around in. But to answer your question, the EVO can be made faster for less money. The closed deck iron block is bullet proof and with built internasl, the power potential is insane. Even at a milder level the EVO uses such a simple primitive ECU that is is really easy to make good power by just bolting parts on the car. The Subaru on the other hand needs tuning for even an intake to run smoothly and safely. So for the ammount it takes to make 300hp at the wheels on a Subau, the EVO can be making 350 plus with the 5 speed of the GSR, acceleration of the evo is faster. But again I will not recomend the build of an EVO to anyone and Mitsubishi is very hard to get any warranty work done so I would still go with a Subaru. Besides you really need to think about how much power you are ready to handle without killing your self. I have spent a lot of money to get over 350 at the wheels on a Mustang dyno out of my WRX. That's about 120 more than stock and a whole lot more torque and I never use it to the fullest. For one thing it's realy scary but most of all I don't need it all to get by just about anyone on the street. I talk about this on here all the time but I have a neighbor with a modified Mustang GT and I beat him so easily, I don't need the amount of power I have so I would bet you will be plenty happy with less too."

zerosports1 replied: "depends what are you looking at. The EVO looks good and a stock EVO 9 can go around the track faster then a stock Ver 8 STi. but if you are thinking of buying then get the new 08 STi that one in stock form will beat the 9 and 10. and looks better. depends on what you really want. if you know some one who owns these cars i sugest getting behind the wheel and getting a feel for them."

Do sti parts work on a regular subaru outback? so i have a 09 subaru outback. obviously not a huge tuner car. but since the wrx sti is technically still an impreza . . . would parts still work for my car? by parts i mean body kit/ground effects etc. (mainly exterior stuff) and also exhaust, suspension, maybe even intake . . . nothing huge just wondering. thanks for your answers. thanks. what about exterior stuff? that site has pretty much all performance parts . . .

I <3 my Suby. replied: "Suspension parts may be about the only thing interchangeable. But they are designed to be quite aggressive on a heavier car so on your car, they may be way too stiff and extremely bouncy.Body kits are not going to work since the STI is an Impreza but the wade body makes it quite different dimensionally. Exhaust is also different in both the way it routs under the car and the quad tips would not work with the bumper made for one tip. And the intake is completely different. Are you thinking of buying used stock STI parts? There are plenty of aftermarket parts for your car if you search around. Try Rallitek.com for one."

cjet427 replied: "they're gonna be totally different dimensions, so any exterior mods aren't gonna work. exhaust is a no, since the Outback is most likely longer, and will have a different undercarriage, so it will probably hit some parts. suspension is a possibility, but intake is also a no-no, since the Sti is turbo, and the intake will be a different shape and size, most likely."

? replied: "If you have an impreza outback then yes just about everything will fit. but if you have a legacy outback then there very few things you can fit. Either way there are plenty of aftermarket companies which have parts to meet your needs. Check out"

High Rev Tuner Fans? I'm getting my 2004 Subaru Sti tuned? this week, it has Wieseco Pistons, and Cosworth Bearings in the engine with only 7000mile prior to rebuild. Skunk II Exhaust system, Racing clutch and flywheel, Walbro racing fuel pump, racing thermostat, K&N open air intake, headers and a Ecutek flash. What would you guess the horsepower will be at the wheels? 1<3 Suby. My turbo unit was shot and I couldn't afford the APS so I bought the stock for now. Also If I put a larger turbo on the car I would have had to move my intercooler down to the front which would have cost me another 2 grand for new intercooler and plumbing> This way I can upgrade slowly starting with the engine since the car didn't have an engine, I needed to get it running!

Alex M replied: "You would be getting about 350 to the wheels"

I <3 my Suby. replied: "It will depend on the dyno as they all read differently and different tuners use different correction factors depending on the region. With the stock turbo, stock down pipe, and the mods you mentioned I would guess 270 HP 320 TQ on a mustang dyno, maybe a little closer to 300 on a higher reading one. You will be limited by the cats in your stock down pipe. I think you are wasting a lot of money on a built block for the stock turbo and down pipe. A stock STI with just a catless down pipe and tuning alone, nothing else, will get more power than you are going to. I would have done more research before modding."

musicalgreasemonkey replied: "More than 350, i cant belive that guy said that, the STi is a sweet car"

whats the difference in a subaru WRX and wrx STI? and is there any other cars i should look at as a beginer to moding out Tuner type cars? i am more about performance to btw not really drag more on street or Course driving

Mark F replied: "The Sti has a different body kit, different interior trim, much more powerful engine, more sophisticated AWD system, bigger and sticker (summer only) tires. Other than that, pretty much the same car."

what are some cheap import tuner cars under 5k? hi im going into high school and i love cars especially import tuners but i need help figuring out what is a good tuner that is cheap to buy aftermarket parts and is reliable for the long run i really want a subaru wrx sti but there really expensive but is a acura integra good??

robertb.bths replied: "you can get a civic si older than jesus and slap a supercharger on it. the VTEC engines never ever break down so they are the only ones good out of the junkyard or off ebay or something like that.if you look on ebay, i saw a few for around 8 grand from 10 yrs ago."

rainbow ♥roxy♥ replied: "acura integras are very good or maybe a nissan"

Need some help about purchasing a Tuner Or Muscle car? ok ok.......i am running into a lot of money pretty soon and i am thinking about purchasing a tuner or muscle car.......the cars i'm looking into are (TUNER) AE86, Silvia, Subaru WRX sti, or 240sx. (MUSCLE) 1970 chevelle ss, 67-69 camaro, GTX, 69 charger, or mustang fastback.........just need some info and some feedback that can help me when the time comes.... THNX PEEPS

chevyraceman_383 replied: "I say go for the muscle car. It will be worth more now, and still be worth alot 20 years down the road. Easier to work on, easier to mod, change, upgrade. In most cases faster than the tuners.. Style is un passed by anything with a muscle car.. Think about this, whats gonna turn more heads. One of the tuners you listed, with a buzzing/farting sound to it and the whine/hiss of a turbo Or one of the muscle cars you listed, with a loud deep, rumble from the exhaust that you can hear a mile away, and heck even can have the whine of a blower thats sticking through the hood) or a turbo.. The tuners really kinda blend in with the rest of the cars on the road no matter what type tuner it is.. The muscle cars stands out because the look so diff than the cars you see on road now."

gx7pyro replied: "if you have the money for a STi, 70 Chevelle, 69 Camaro, 69 Charger, etc etc dont settle for a AE86, Silvia, or 240sx. those 3 cars are at the bottom end of the car list - they are economical daily drivers for most who own them. so between the STi and the muscle cars, your experience with cars needs to be evaluated. if you have lots of experience with piston engines (and gas is not a issue), get a muscle car. they take a lot of time and effort to maintain, but they are awesome, and very seldom seen. if you dont have too much experience, get the STi. it already has a good amount of power stock, a pretty good awd system, and is really reliable for a turbo engine. that way, you can slowly learn more about the car if you ever decide to mod it out."

hardcorenuissance replied: "MUSCLE BEATS IMPORT EVERYTIME You'll be much more pleased at the looks your muscle car gets you, and the way it rides and looks. For ultimate power, go muscle. For Amazing comfort, go muscle And If you want a car EVERYONE will look at with there jaw open, go muscle the chevelle, camaro are definite head turners. the charger would be insane"

What Car Would You Get??? '05 Subaru WRX STI est. $21-$25k '06 Subaru WRX TR (tuner ready) est. $23-$26k w.options '04-'05 Pontiac GTO est. $21-$24k + a cheap winter beater (around $1,500) I cant decide what to get, I have a 5 year old son so I like the four doors and AWD on the Subaru and I live in WI. where it snows. But damn that GTO is tight but i'd have to get a beater for the winter cause that GTO can't be that good in the snow. Also I have a poor driving record so im looking to pay around $250 a month, surprisingly the GTO had a lower monthly insurance payment than the Subaru's, which I don't understand. And I will be putting down about 8 grand , so what would you get if you were in my situation???

♥blah♥ replied: "2005 MUSTANG BABY!"

ohmabc replied: "I would get the 2006 Subaru WRX TR w. options. Because of your particular situation, you may have to get the GTO."

sellatieeat replied: "i'd get a GTO. its cheaper in insurancep payments."

superrocketnerd replied: "Cadillac 1970's Coupe Devile"

KEITH G replied: "Forget the new models, get a late model used one. You'll have a lot of the depreciation already knocked off the price."

chris b replied: "Go for the Bentley, not only will you be satisfied, but you will impress your friends as well."

Doc. justasinner111 replied: "A $2000 used car. Don't be like millions tied to payments with jobs going every day overseas. Buy a house or land. Cars lose value. Don't be a sucker trying to out do someone."

ROME replied: "lets see turbo awd is nice especialy in the area u live in (winter times) ..would be easier if u put down 06 sti on the list :) the wrx's are more practical since u do have a family. BUT the gto is SICK altho ur talkin about the 5.7 it still garauntees more fun and more head turning. Rims exhaust and ull be more then happy with it ......id get the gto plus beater i think the gto is a more enjoyable car (done rambling ) :)"

dino replied: "If money is not an option, then get the '06 Subaru WRX TR...sweet ride."

pdudenhefer replied: "If you want a great car in the $21k range go for the Chrysler 300.Its made by Mercedes, gets decent gas milage, heavy and safe for a family, holds its value and turns heads.what more could you ask for?"

ThereIsNoHope replied: "you evidently like fast cars, this must account for your poor driving record, don't buy any of these, get a used Subaru Legacy, anything made within the last 5 years, get the lowest mileage one, you can't be serious about a $250 a month payment on such expensive cars, not unless they have 10 year financing"

Dodge Neon srt-4 vs Subaru Impreza WRX? I'm thinking of buying my first tuner car and I'm debating whether to get the srt-4 or wrx. I know that the wrx sti is better then the wrx but i can't afford an sti at the moment. Which car is better in performance and has better after market parts? these are the ones i found in my area 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon body with 60k miles on it for $13,495 2004 Dodge Neon SRT4 with these extras Mopar 3" Catback Exhaust, AEM Guages: Tru-Boost Controller, Air-to-Fuel Ratio,Voltage. Ceterline Wheels, Yokohama tires w/less than 10K mi.,Turbo timer, New brakes and calipers, Viper Racing Seats, Ipod/Itrip plug, with 64k miles on it for $9,900 for the answers below does it matter that its not the STI

tim replied: "Ive owned both. I have had a brand new srt4 and now own a 2008 wrx and imo I say go and spend the extra cash on the wrx. I'm not a fan of the wagon but its still a wrx. The srt's are a little faster stock but they break.... a lot! and I wouldn't buy a car with that much aftermarket stuff already on it unless I knew who I was getting it from. The wrx will last longer and has endless tuning potential. Plus its got the awd if it snows out where you are. I live in NE and without good snow tires the srt is a pain to drive in the snow because its so light."

I <3 my Suby. replied: "I agree with the guy above. When I bought my first WRX in late 01, I loved the car but thought it had a lot of creaks and rattles. But I was so happy with the performance for the money, I looked past it. A little later a friend bought an SRT-4. That thing was like driving a coffee can with pebbles in it. Everything made noise and I was actually afraid to drive it. And yes it did spend a lot of time having warranty work done. The WRX's are not perfect but get a little better each year since then. Your insurance will be a lot better with a wagon than a sedan too. I don't know why because it's the same car but my 06 wagon is almost half what the 02 was."

musicalgreasemonkey replied: "The WRX hands down. You will love how it is wayyyyyy more reliable than dodge, and it has AWD... you will never have to worry about getting stuck anywhere... the AWD is really that good.... and the WRX is faster, and more durable... which is important... Definately the WRX..."

Jerry replied: "You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net"

Jims sti replied: "dodge and chevy = junk. thats why their sales are hurting. subaru has gone quite a long time having record sales. pick the wrx, youll be a lot happier then in a dodge. plus when you go to sell the car it will have a higher resale value."

SlapHappy32 replied: "the subaru is the better choice first it's not a shitty neon and the wrx is going to be faster if you put those same part in it. plus you will have a turbo charged wagon that is tits no one is going to believe they just got beat by a wagon SUBARU! SUBARU! SUBARU! SUBARU!"

2008 Jeep Rubicon or 2007 Honda Civic Si? Okay! so i have been a die-hard wanna be tuner. When it comes to trucks/jeeps, i know i want a Rubicon. I just threw a Civic in the title because i am not actually sure which car i want. I want a manual car soo soo bad but the true car i want is an Subaru Wrx Sti but, its too high to maintain. What would you all recomend?

maralex_inc replied: "I would like to say that the Rubicon is only good for hard core offroad use. The new Rubicon has very poor road abilities due to very outdated and cheaply made suspension and steering (things were better with the older TJ model). It also has under powered engine. The auto tranny has an awful torque converter that never fully locks. The interior is as cheap as it could get. Plastic, panel, buttons and finish feel and look sub par to say the least. I see that you are a tuning enthusiast. While the Civic is a very well made car (drives quite nice for a front wheel drive as well), it is not very suitable for tuning unless you just want to join the "rice team" and no good driver should ever do it. As a car enthusiast (assuming you have done some advanced and performance driving training) you should aim at a rear wheel drive (or all wheel drive). When it comes to the oversteer and it's control, there is no substitute for it. Subaru WRX or Impreza would be great choices. They are not expensive, have very good driving dynamics and just enough power to excercise and not be underpowered. Any real driver's car should have excellent steering which Subaru does have. The next choice would be something german like BMW or Audi. BMW will give you the best road feel and handling when it come's to a true driver's car. Most BMW's will have great capabilities without any upgrades (folks who think HP is all you need are just clueless about driving...there is so much you can do with 220 HP and the right car). To sum it up: forget about the Jeep. It will dissapoint you. Look for a rear wheel drive or all-wheel-drive car that has good steering and suspension (Mitsubishi Evo is a good one too for less expensive choices). Do some research on the web."

mark_hensley@sbcglobal.net replied: "A pre-owned Mazdaspeed 3 will run with any Subaru, Honda or Audi that has a four cylinder engine. It will even run hard with a 6 cylinder BMW up to 155 mph for half the price. If it where a race the rear wheel drive would out class a front wheel drive everyday. It is asking to much for the car to negotiate steering, powering and controlling the vehicle with front wheel drive into a corner over 100 mph. To Honda's credit, I believe I am correct in saying that Honda engines are the best engines money can by in IRL racing. To note, the grandson to Mario Andretti drives a Honda Civic Si to practice his driving skills on scenic mountain passes in Europe. This says something for the car's racing pedigree and it's tuning capabilities. This same article can be found in Motor Trend Magazine. The Honda racing pedigree is second to the Italians and arguably the Germans. I am guessing that your choice will be an everyday driver. Chances are, you will drive the car 95% of the time, the difference may be left to the track. If this ratio is close, front wheel drive should comeback into the equation because in everyday driving, improved gas mileage and greater interior space means more bang for the buck. The Honda Civic Si is a worthy consideration and competitor on the track. The Subaru and Mitsubishi Evo are a more durable track brand than the Mazdaspeed. However, Subaru is the most reliable of all the brands mentioned. If you can get a 1 to 2 year old Subaru Wrx Sti with service records intact, it may be the best compromise of the car brands listed. As for the Jeep Rubicon, it is a truck. It is a great truck if that is your thing. If you drive in the mountains or go off-road, nothing beats the utility of a Jeep. Obviously, a Jeep and a Honda Civic Si are polar opposites. What you have to decide is what type of driving will you do and what percentage of the time will be for off road use in the case of the Jeep, or racing in the case of a tuner type car. And, everyday driving and posing which is best. In my opinion, it is better to have a capable car that has the capabilities for a breath taking ear to ear grin response to my right foot; but let someone else tear up their car by thrashing through the gears...most of the time while I watch. Cheers."

zzvegasbaby replied: "Try a Jeep Patriot. It is a true four wheel drive yet could hang with a civic on road."

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIIII ? okay so i have a Subaru STI and my younger bro who just got his license and bought a lancer wants to be a tuner but doesnt know anything about mechanics i have an engineering degree but im too lazy to help him is their like a garage or something in SOCAL that i can send him to where he can get professional help while i watch football on my coach lol! :D oh and dont tell me i'm a bad bro cause i dont like hurting my back leaning over an engine trying to install an intercooler :P no por que usted sabe

Sara J replied: "pues yo no sabe... lol.. im learning spanish thow.. LMAO"

Craven Moorehead replied: "Engineering degree and unable to search "Mitsubishi Evo tuners California"? You're right, you are too lazy. "

Kenaki replied: "What he needs is researching online or go hit the books about turbo'd cars and how to tune it. A garage can help but its not going to teach him anything than just mess up his evo and lose all the money. If I was him, I wouldn't touch the evo until he knows what he is doing first. He can go join some forums online and read tutorial guides or if have any questions, he can ask online or on forums. If he is not mechanically knowledgable enough, tell him to go be a car mechanic if he is going to do "hands-on" installations by himself. My bro never wanted to teach me about cars. All he says is "This is a turbo... and this is intercooler..." But eventually I joined the evoM forums and did a lot of researching online. Then I knew more than my bro."
